Compatibility guide

HDD drill rod compatibility by machine model

The wrong rod size will not enter the rod box, and if it does, the thread will not hold. The pages below give body diameter, tool joint size, length, weight, torque limit and bend radius for the most frequently asked machine models, in one table each. Figures come from the Boremak drill rod catalogue.

Full tables and other sizes

These pages cover the models asked about most often. Every row from the Vermeer D7×11 to the D100×120, the Ditch Witch JT820 to the JT8020, and the friction-welded Midi/Maxi special series are in the master tables on the HDD drill rods page.

Frequently asked

About rod compatibility.

How do I find the rod size for my machine?

The surest way is to measure the body diameter and the tool joint outside diameter of your existing rod with callipers. The model code alone can mislead: the same model can use different sizes across series. Take the measurements and call us; we will confirm the right rod together.

Are rods from different brands interchangeable?

Even when body diameters are close, thread form and wall thickness differ, so they do not make up directly. A crossover sub bridges the two systems. Share your rig and rod thread and we will identify the right one.

Why does maximum torque matter?

It is the highest torsional moment the rod can carry without permanent damage. If the rig rotary torque can exceed the rod limit, torque limiting must be set on the rig side; otherwise the first failure is at the thread and the broken piece stays in the bore.

What is the minimum bend radius for?

It is the tightest radius at which the rod bends elastically, and it sets the limit of the bore profile. Entry angle and depth plan cannot be drawn tighter than this radius.

My machine is not listed — can you still supply rods?

The models here are the most frequently asked. The full catalogue tables cover more sizes, and rods are supplied for machines outside this list too. Just tell us the make and model.
