HDD accessories are the auxiliary parts that establish the connection between the machine, drill string and downhole tooling, protect them and make pipe-pulling easier. Connection adapters, thread protectors (sub-savers), pulling heads, rollers, pick points and swivels all belong to this group.
Small as they look, they are critical in the field: a single wrong or worn accessory can stop a whole crossing or damage expensive machine threads. Choosing the right accessory both extends equipment life and saves time and cost on every crossing.
Connection adapters and thread protectors (sub-savers)
Different machine, rod and tool brands often use different thread types and sizes. Connection adapters make these different threads (pin–box, size and standard differences) compatible with each other, so the machine, drill string and downhole tools join without trouble.
A thread protector (sub-saver) is a sacrificial intermediate part fitted between the machine spindle and the drill string. It takes on itself the wear that occurs during constant make/break; this protects the expensive machine-spindle threads. Replacing a cheap sub-saver in time prevents a far more costly spindle repair.

Rollers — entry angle and pipe protection
Rollers are auxiliary parts that support the drill string and product pipe in the entry/exit pit. They guide the pipe without letting it rub against the ground; they help both preserve the entry angle and reduce friction and wear on the pipe coating.
Especially in long, large-diameter pipe pulls, rollers lower the pullback force and relieve both the machine and the pipe. A well-positioned roller layout protects the pipe against scratching, crushing and strain on sharp turns.

Pulling heads (pulling head / grip)
A pulling head / grip connects the product pipe (HDPE or steel) to the drill string through the swivel, allowing the pipe to be pulled through the hole after reaming. Because the entire load of the pipe pull is transferred through this part, choosing the right type and the right capacity is critical.
On HDPE pipes, heads fitted to the butt weld or grip-type heads that clamp the body are used; on steel pipes, threaded/clamped connections are used. The chosen head's pullback capacity must exceed the maximum force expected on the crossing.

Pick points and carbide cutting tips
Pick points (carbide cutting tips) are replaceable tips on reamers, directional bits and various tools that cut and break the ground. Thanks to their conical bodies and tungsten-carbide tips, they stay sharp for a long time in abrasive ground.
Being able to renew them one by one as they wear lets you keep working by replacing only the tips instead of discarding the whole tool. This both lowers operating cost and preserves the tools' gauge (diameter).
