The directional bit (duckbill / pilot bit) is the front tool that cuts the ground and controls the drilling direction during the pilot-bore stage of a horizontal drilling machine. Thanks to its slanted face, when the rod is pushed without rotating it steers the machine in the desired direction; when pushed while rotating it advances straight. It is produced in different forms and teeth according to the soil class and bore profile.
Made from high-quality Hardox plate
Boremak directional bits are manufactured from high-quality Hardox wear plate. This material keeps the bit's cutting edges and body in form for a long time when working in hard and abrasive ground. Thanks to its extra strength against wear and abrasion, it offers longer life and less downtime in demanding site conditions. On request, the cutting edges can be reinforced with carbide teeth or stud coating.
Teeth and coating tailored to the ground
Each bit is produced with a different tooth and coating layout to suit the ground it will work in. Sharp cutting edges are preferred in soft ground, and carbide stud coating in hard, stony ground. The sonde window and connection holes are positioned according to the transmitter and machine type you use; this keeps both steering accuracy and durability at the highest level.
