Vermeer compatible rods

Drill rods compatible with the Vermeer D33×44 / D36×50

The D33×44 and D36×50 use the same 60,3 mm body diameter as the D24×40, but the tool joint grows to 70–72 mm and maximum torque rises to 6.772 Nm. Rod sizing is shared between the two models; the choice between 3.048 mm and 4.572 mm depends on the rig rod box.

Figures are taken from the master drill rod tables. Measuring the tool joint diameter of your existing rod with callipers is a surer check than the model code alone.

Why these figures matter

A tool joint growing from 66,7 mm to 70–72 mm means a larger friction surface inside the bore. On long crossings this affects the mud programme and the pullback force required, and should be allowed for when planning the reaming stages.

STETON rigs in the same torque class

The 6.772 Nm torque class corresponds to the range these STETON rigs work in. If you are evaluating a new machine, this is the starting point for comparison.

Frequently asked

About Vermeer D33×44 / D36×50 drill rods.

Do the D33×44 and D36×50 use the same rod?

The body dimensions are identical. The tool joint may be 70 mm or 72 mm depending on the machine series; please measure your existing tool joint or tell us the series before ordering.

What does the 6.772 Nm torque limit mean?

It is the highest torsional moment the rod can carry without permanent damage. If the rig can exceed it, torque limiting must be set on the rig side; otherwise the first failure will be at the thread.

Is this rod enough for rock?

Rod strength is sufficient in rock; the deciding factor is the bit. Rock bits and mud motors raise torque and mud-flow demand, and that has to be met on the rig side.
